So... i guess i am a blogger!
Looks like i am in... i have dived into the blogging world! Yikes! sorry to all of those that i have mocked! it really is pretty fun! Thanks to you who have posted and made it even more interesting for me! You all put a smile on my face and make me laugh every time i check out a new post!
Instead of posting my own thoughts, i have some questions for you. i am interested in getting some feedback on an issue we talked about at my small group tonight.
As Christians, is it good or bad to look at and maybe even study some different religions? Does the knowledge we gain help us to stand stronger in our faith? Is knowledge power? or is ignorance bliss?

Scripture never teaches us to understand what is false, but to seek wisdom - which is found in Scripture alone. Some believe studying other religions will benefit them, but as a pastor I lean more every time I open the Word. That tells me that I need to stay in the Bible, and avoid false doctrine.
how many catholics do you know that are really catholic? how many mormons do you know that really know the inner workings of their belief system? how many christians do you know who only use the title? as christians we deal with individuals and in our culture their worldview is as confused as they are. if you know the truth you will be able to communicate it to anyone no matter what they believe. the problem is that we don't know the truth. we just know the pre-packaged defense we've been spoon fed by the apolisist.
just for kicks lets meditate on the counterfit illustraition. you know about the person who only studies the real twenty dollar bill so that when anything counterfit comes along he can spot it quickly as opposed to the guy who tries to look at all the counterfit bills and find out what's wrong with them and ends up dissillusioned and unable to distinguish truth from make believe.
All i know is that i am funny. I know for a fact that lub has studied my wit and in fact has gained some wisdom from it.
I want to know what your small group thought!
Awesome insights!! I love it!! Thank you so much for your posts! They really made me think and actually make a firm decision about what to do. My group got on this topic because we are almost done with the book study that we are currently doing and we were trying to decide what to do next. Somehow we got on the subject of looking at other world religions. We had some debate, but never really came to a conclusion.
Well, after taking time today to pray about it and even more so after reading your posts the answer was SO clear that I felt stupid for having to think about what to do–even for a moment.
The purpose of a small group is to grow closer to God and to each other—to build community, friendships, accountability. And I realized that looking at other religions does the total opposite of all of that. It pulls us away from our purpose and away from God (exactly what the devil wants us to do). YIKES!! How did we not see that last night? The best way to stand strong in our faith is to dive deep into the Word! We will never be done learning from God’s Word… why would we want to even try to learn more about a different religion!
And yes big t… you are funny!!!
Most of the time people want to study what is interesting over what is NECESSARY. I focus on necessary first. How about a study on the implications of Colossians 1 - that would open eyes!
I appreciate your opening a Biblical subject for comment, Hammer.
Good insighta LUB!
I've learned nothing from your wit BIG T!
Thanks for all your insights! You are right on! I am bringing your thought with me to my small group this week! You guys really helped me see things clearer! I love it!
